Food Neophobia

Food neophobia is the fear or lack of trying new food. The idea of this can ultimately damage someone's diet. Sometime in the evolutionary past, we believed that it protects a person from eating substances that could cause illness or death. Nowadays, having food neophobia can lead to a very small diet and lack of nutrition. Food neophobia happens in early childhood but can extend to adulthood. Some scientists believe genetics can play a role in food neophobia as well.

  1. This is a really interesting phenomenon, has any research been done on how to introduce new foods to individuals with food neophobia that may potentially increase they're willingness to try new foods?
